Papers of Elswyth Thane, 1943-1963.

The papers of Elswyth Thane are comprised of her literary manuscripts and research material. Her "Williamsburg books" are represented with holograph notebooks containing the first drafts. Some also have printer's copies and correspondence. Potomac Squire includes audiotapes of Thane's research, a holograph draft, working typescripts, and an author's index. Eight of Elswyth Thane's books are documented in these papers.

Helen Elswyth Thane Ricker Beebe (May 16, 1900 – July 31, 1984) was an American romance novelist. Born in Burlington, Iowa, she was the daughter of a local teacher and high school principal. The family moved to New York City in 1918, and "Helen Ricker" changed her name to "Elswyth Thane". She began working as a freelance writer in the 1920s, and became a newspaper writer and a Hollywood screenwriter. Her first novel, Riders of the Wind, was published in 1926.
